Coddington correction is achieved through the use of a single thick lens with a central groove diaphragm. The diaphragm permits light to pass through just the central part of the lens, where the distortion introduced by the lens is the smallest. This provides a sharp, crisp image for viewing stones, but it is not recommended for diamond grading.
