Measures the Refractive Index (RI) of faceted gemstones to confirm their identity. Gives a digital readout of an RI value to 3 decimal places, along with the names of matching gemstone(s) retrieved from among its 200+ gem database. No fluid is required, and there is no RI limit above the 1.810 level - the Gem-n-Eye II will measure stones reading as high as 3.300 RI, including Diamonds and its simulants such as CZ and Moissanite, along with Zircon and certain Garnets, all of which are beyond the reach of standard refractometers. For proper results, your gems must be clean and highly polished, and your measuring surface free of any dust, in which case, the Gem-n-Eye II is accurate to within about +/-.010 of an RI value. One year manufacturer's warranty. Buyer's Guide: The Gem-n-Eye II should be considered by those who have difficulty reading a traditional Critical Angle Refractometer, and/or want to avoid the latter instrument's somewhat toxic fluid, and for those who work with high index stones, including certain Garnets, Zircon, and Diamond, etc. But while the Critical Angle Refractometer is a "determinative" tool because of its high level of accuracy and consistency, and that it also measures Birefringence, the Gem-n-Eye II should be considered more of a "confirmative" tool.
