Unlike a traditional refractometer, PRIM II is able to measure the range of RI value from 1.000 to ~3.000, thus covering the commonly known gemstones in the market, including diamond and moissanite without the inconvenience and messy usage of the toxic R.I. liquid. The software allows the user to further eliminate the list of possible colored gemstones via the color, hardness and specific gravity (S.G. value), on top of the R.I. measurement from the unit.
